At least 10 persons including five in Gopalganj and many others seriously injured in several tragic road crashes across the country on Saturday.
In Gopalganj, at least five people including a police member were killed, and 13 others injured, when a passenger bus rammed a truck in Sadar upazila of the district.
The accident took place on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Shonashur area around 2am on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Subedar Abdur Rashid, 45, a ASI of police who was serving in Gopalganj police lines, and Bijan Hawladar, 23, Russel, 22, and Kamal Mandal, 24, inhabitants of Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur, and Habib Munshi, 35, inhabitant of Tungipara upazila in Gopalganj.
Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gopalganj Sadar Police Station confirmed the news to the media that a truck laden with iron rods was parked beside the highway as one of its wheels had gotten punctured.
The accident occurred when a Pirojpur-bound bus of Emad Paribahan from Dhaka hit the truck from behind, leaving three passengers dead on the spot.
The injured were taken to Gopalganj General Hospital.
Of them, Subedar Rashid and Habib were shifted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) as their condition deteriorated.
The police man was declared dead by the on-duty doctor at KMCH, the OC said.
In Kishoreganj, a motorcycle rider named Habibur Rahman Rusel,38,
was killed and his wife seriously injured when a truck hit the bike in Kotiadi upazila of the district on Saturday.
Deceased Habibur Rahman was son of one Abdur Gafur from Vogpara area and was President of Upazila Juba Dal.
In Magura, a truck driver named Noyan Miah, 43, died when another truck rammed him in WAPDA area of the district on Saturday. In Bagerhat, a motorcyclist named Alauddin,34, was killed in a tragic road accident in Mollarhat upazila of the district on Saturday noon.
In Chattogram, a pedestrian named Mafizur Rhaman,50, was killed when a truck hit him in Gasoya area under Rangonia upazila of the district on Saturday. In Gaibandha, a motor-bike rider named Milon Miah,36, was killed when a truck hit him in Polashbari upazila of the district.
