11 more killed : Anti-drug shootout on: 70 killed since May 12

Eleven people were killed in gunfight with either police or Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the capital and eight other districts on Friday since the anti-drug drive continues across the country.
So far a total of 70 people were killed in ‘gunfights’ across the country since May 12.
Law enforcers also seized arms, Yaba, phensydil and canbis during the drives, reports our correspondents quoting law enforcers.
In the capital, Quamrul, a listed drug peddler was killed in the gunfight between his cohorts and members of RAB-2 in Tejgaon Industrial area of the capital early Friday.
RAB sources said that Quamrul was wanted in a number of cases. The elite force also recovered a number of firearms, bullets and Yaba pills from the spot after the gunfight.
In Mymensingh, Rajon Mia, 30, a suspected drug pusher and son of Harunur Rashid of Purohitpara area in the city, was killed in ‘gunfight’ with DB police at Purohitpara in the city around 2:30 am, said Ashiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh DB police.
Rajon was wanted in five cases, said the OC. Police also recovered 420 pieces of Yaba and a shell of bullets from the spot.
In Netrakona, two suspected drug peddlers were killed in the gunfight with police at Monang in Sadar upazila early Friday. The identities of the deceased could not be known instantly.
Police recovered 750 grams of heroin, 3500 pieces of Yaba pills and two pipe guns from the spot.
In Sherpur, a ‘gunfight’ with police left Azad alias Kalu Dacoit, 28, an alleged drug peddler and son of Mantaj Ali of Marakandi Khashpara of Sadar upazila, dead at Satpakia  
in Sadar upazila early in the morning, said Aminul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Sherpur Police, Azad was wanted in 21 cases, including that of robbery and drugs, he aid.
Kulu’s family members, who gathered at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Friday morning, claimed that police picked up Kalu from his house on Thursday and killed in the so-called gunfight.
In Cumilla, Kamal alias Fancy Kamal, a suspected drug trader and son of Hiron Mia of Rajmangalpur village in Adarsha Sadar Upazila, was killed in a reported gun battle with police at Mahishmara of Burichang Upazila early today, said Manoj Kumar Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Burichang Police Station.
Police arrested two of his accomplices namely-Hanif and Elias and recovered one LG gun and 50 kgs of hemp from the spot. Kamal was wanted in 12 cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act, said OC.
In Gaibandha, Jewel, a suspected drug peddler wanted in dozens of cases related to drugs, was killed in a gun battle with police at Balashighat in Phulchhari upazila early in the morning, said Khan Mohammad Shahrier, OC of Sadar Police Station.
In Jhenidah, Shamim Sardar, 45, a listed drug pusher was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Arpara in Kaliganj upazila on Thursday night, said Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station.
He was wanted in nine cases, the OC added.
Police also recovered one pistol, two bullets and several pieces of Yaba pills from the scene.
In Cox’s Bazar, two alleged drug traders were found dead on Friday morning.
They have been identified as Yaba Don Akhter Kamal, 41, and Mostak Ahmed. Akhter Kamal was a relative (brother-in-law of a sister of Bodi) of ruling party lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi.
Police suspect both Kamal and Mostak were killed during gunfights with their rivals.
Moheshkhali police OC Pradip Kumar Das said that Mostak’s bullet-hit body was found in Pahartali area under Moheshkhali upazila and Kamal’s bullet-riddle body was found in Darianagar Bridge area under Khuniapalang union of Ramu upazila on Friday morning.
A listed criminal, Akhter Kamal was also an elected member of Sabrang union parishad.
Our correspondent from Satkhira reports, a drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two gangs in Kalaroa upazila at early hours.
The dead was identified as Yunus Ali Dalal. A one shooter gun, two bullets and 70 bottles of phensedyl syrup were also recovered from the spot.
Acting on secret information that two gangs of drug dealers engaged in a gun-battle in the bordering Borali area, police rushed to the scene and fired blank shots.
