At least 11 people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents at Basail and Madhupur Upazilas in Tangail district on Thursday.
The dead bodies were sent to Tangail General Hospital and Tangail Medical College Hospital for autopsy and the injured were admitted in different hospitals for better treatment.
The deceased were identified as Bulu, Momtaz Begum, Hajera Begum, Tahmina Begum, Sompa, Mehedi Hasan, Rezvi, Shuvo, Sohel Rana, Sohag and Himel.
Elenga Highway Police Outpost In-Charge Sergeant Jahangir Alam said a microbus and a truck collided while the microbus was overtaking the truck at Basail Link Road leaving seven passengers of the microbus dead on the spot. Police and Fire Service rescued the bodies and eight injured people were sent to Tangail General Hospital where two more people succumbed to their injuries.
Madhupur Police Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam said, some youths had indulged in motorcycle race from Mymensingh. As they reached Telki of Madhupur forest, one of the bikes lost control and its driver Sohagh died on the spot. The pillion rider Himel was also sustained severe injuries and taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital and the doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died at Mirzapur on way to Dhaka.
