11 killed in road accidents

At least 11 people were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in Jessore, Sirajganj, Kushtia and Nilphamari districts on Tuesday.
In Jessore, seven people were killed and two others injured when a truck hit a diesel-run auto-rickshaw on the Jessore-Khulna Highway in Abhaynagar upazila in the morning.
Of the deceased, six were identified as Faruque Hossain, 40, Nantu Karmaker, 38, Tutul Mallick, 38, Gopalbala, 60, Poritosh Saha, 55, and Iqbal Mollah. The victims hailed from different villages of Phultala upazila in Khulna and Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore district.
Assistant Police Super of the district Reshma Sharmin said the accident took  
place in front of ‘Ahad Cement Factory’ at Rajghat around 7am when the speeding truck smashed into the Jessore-bound auto-rickshaw coming from Phultala in Khulna, killing the three auto-rickshaw passengers on the spot and leaving six others injured.
Four critically injured were rushed to Jessore Sadar Hospital where attending doctors pronounced them dead on arrival. The two other injured, Forkan and Monirul, have been sent to Abhaynagar upazila health complex.
In Sirajganj, two people, including the wife of Akkelpur municipality mayor, were killed and eight others injured as a truck crashed into a bus on Dhaka-Sirajganj Highway in Raiganj upazila in the early hours.
The deceased were identified as Samina Chowdhury Ripa, 39, the wife of Akkelpur municipality mayor Alamgir Chowdhury Badsha, and their domestic help Rajani Begum, 12.
Police said the speedy truck hit the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ from behind at Sholashahar in the upazila at about 3am, leaving Ripa and Rajani dead on the spot and eight other passengers injured.
The bodies were handed over to the family members after postmortem.
Badsha along with his family members was going to the capital when the tragedy struck them.
In Kushita, a septuagenarian man was killed in a road accident in Mirpur upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Fahim Sarder,75, of Khandakbaria village of the same upazila.
In Nilphamari, a woman was killed and his son injured as a bus knocked them down at Kazirhat in Sadar upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Tahmina Begum, 30, wife of Jalal Uddin of Uttara Shashi village in the upazila.
Meanwhile, a student of Rajshahi University of Science and Technology (Ruet) who was injured in a road accident in Pabna on May 29 died in a Rajshahi hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.
