11 killed in road accidents

At least 11 people, including two siblings, were killed in separate road accidents in Rajshahi, Pabna, Habiganj, Kurigram, Shariatpur and Chapainawabganj districts on Tuesday.
Of them, four were killed in Rajshahi, two each in Pabna and Habiganj and one each in Kurigram, Shariatpur and Chapainawabganj.
In Rajshahi, four people were killed and 20 others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on
Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in Sonadighi area of Godagari upazila. The deceased were identified as Mariam, 55, and her son Mahi, 35, of Assam Colony area in the upazila, and Shahidul Islam, 35, and his son Mehedi, 8, of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district.
Seven of the injured were identified as Hafiza, 30, Poly, 30, Abu Hasan, 25, Ashraful, 62, Abdul Ahad, 25, Mostafa, 55, and Amena, 35.
Witnesses said the bus coming from Rajshahi veered off the road and fell into the ditch around 1 pm as its driver lost control over the steering after one of its front tyres deflated, killing Mariam and Mahi on the spot and injuring 20 people.
The injured were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where Shahidul and his son Mehedi died while undergoing treatment.
In Pabna, a Nasiman overturned in Mahishkhola area on Nagarbari-Bogra highway in Santhia upazila around 12pm, leaving Ujjal Hossain, 48, of Borat village and driver of the human hauler Haque Ali, 32, dead on the spot and injuring seven people.
The injured were admitted to Bera upazila health complex. Angered at the accident, locals blocked the highway for an hour. Later, police quelled the mob.
In Habiganj, a bus ran over a motorcycle in Kamargaon area on Inatganj-Syedpur highway in Nabiganj upazila in the afternoon, leaving two siblings dead.
The deceased were identified as Abidur Rahman Likon, 25, and his expatriate elder brother Rangu Mia. Likon died on the spot while Rangu succumbed to his injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
In Kurigram, a rickshaw van driver, Abdur Rafiq, 45, was killed when a Nasiman hit a rickshaw van in Ulipur area in Rajarhat upazila in the afternoon.
In Shariatpur, an ambulance collided head-on with a motorcycle at Chardomsar on Dhaka-Shariatpur highway in Sadar upazila, leaving motorcyclist Moshiur Rahman Khan, 18, killed on the spot and injuring his younger brother Babul Khan, 13.
Injured Babul was rushed to Dhaka as his condition was critical. In Chapainawabganj, Alauddin, 45, son of Shukur Uddin of Bajitpur village in Shibganj upazila, died on the spot after a bus crashed into a motorcycle at Kansat Gopalnagar in the evening.
