Rohingya voters: 11 including chairman sued in ACC case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 11 people, including Election Commission (EC) officials and a former chairman of a Union Parishad, involved in issuing birth registration certificates to Rohingya citizens and including them in the voter list through fraud. Sharif Uddin, deputy assistant director of the anti-corruption commission’s Chittagong-1 office, filed the case on Tuesday (June 15) afternoon. The accused are- Double Mooring Police Station Election Office Assistant. Joynal Abedin (34), Senior District Election Officer MLSS. Nur Ahmed (42), Hathazari Upazila Election Office Data Entry Operator Saifuddin Chowdhury, Keraniganj Upazila Election Officer’s Office Technical Expert (Temporary) Satya Sundar Dey, Hathazari Mirzapur Union Parishad former Chairman. Nurul Absar, Mirzapur Union Parishad Ward No. 5 member, Md. Nurul Islam, former birth certificate maker of Mirzapur Union Parishad Belal Uddin. In addition, a resident of Mirzapur Union. Abdur Salam, Md. Azizur Rahman, Lucky (real name Ramzan Bibi), Nazir Ahmed. According to the case statement, from February 1 to July 24, 2019, Joynal Abedin, an office assistant at the Double Mooring Police Station’s election office, was directly involved in the malicious inclusion of Rohingya citizen Lucky Akter in the voter list for financial gain. MLSS of Chittagong District Senior Election Office provided the form on February 21, 2019 to include Rohingya citizen Lucky Akhter in the voters list. Nur Ahmed.
