11 fishermen jailed , 9 others fined for violating ban on hilsa netting in Barisal

Mobile court led by Muktadir Hossain, Executive Magistrate, on Tuesday noon sentenced eleven fishermen to imprisonment and fined ten others for violating 15-day ban against hila netting on Kalabadar and Tentulia Rivers.
Bamal Chandra Das, District Fishery Officer (Hilsa) said Fisher Department in assistances with local administration, law enforcing agencies operating drives from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM detained those 20 fishermen with fishing nets from the rivers
Then they were placed before the mobile courts.
The court sentenced Zafar Haoladar, Ruhul Amin Haoladar, Mizanur Majhi and Jamil Kazi of Barisal Sadar upazila to 3-day imprisonment.
The mobile court also sentenced seven other fishermen Shahid Maltia, Zamal Mal, Kabir Khondokar, Khalil Sardar, Azmir Dhali, Muzammel Khan and Al-Amin Bagha of Gourabdi and Dhulkhola union under Hizla upazila to 1-year imprisonment for violating the hilsa-netting ban.
Besides nine fishermen Ikbal Haoladar, Zahangir Haoladar, Bachchu Pahloan, Sumon Khan, Zahangir Alam, Ruhul Amin, Arifur Rahman, Liton Shikdar fined Tk.2 thousand each, Kabir Haoladar fined Tk.1 thousand.
Total hilsa fishing net worth Tk 80 thousand and netted hilsa worth Tk. 30 thousand were seized and destroyed by order of the court.
The 15-day ban against hilsa fishing imposed from September 25 to boost hilsa resources by saving mother hilsa carrying egg during lying season, said Bimal Chandra.
