Some 11 aspirants MP candidates of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) submitted their nomination papers for Mymensingh-3 to join the 11th National Parliamentary election to be held on December 30, 2018. Mymensingh-3 constituency is constituted by only Gouripur Upazila.
There is widespread discussion among the people of Gouripur upazila who are to vie for the parliamentary seat. 11 aspiring candidates from BNP are running in the race for party nomination for the upcoming parliament elections. Eleven BNP hopefuls who bought party nomination papers from BNP party office are staying in Dhaka to try to get the party nomination. On November 20, 2018 Wednesday, these aspirant candidates would be called for an interview by the BNP nomination board. The aspirant candidates are Chairman of Gouripur Upazila Parishad Ahmed Tayebur Rahman Hiron, BNP central leader Engr. M Iqbal Hossain, BNP central leader and Joint Secretary of Bangladesh-Jatiyotabadi Sangskritik Jot Md. Ashraful Islam (Kobi Selim Bala) ,the acting convener of the upazila BNP Hafez Md. Azizul Haque,General Secretary of Mymensingh Lawyers Forum Adv. Md Nurul Haque, Vice-President of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (central committee, DAB) Dr. Md. Abdus Selim, President of district Jubo Dal (North) Shamsul Hoque (VP Shamsu), Vice-President of district Jubo Dal (North) Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman Mahfuz,Upazila BNP Joint Convener Nasimul Goni Sohel, BNP leader Adv. Sharaf Uddin Khan Pathan and former Gouripur Upazila Parishad Vice- Chairman Tanzir Chowdhury Lily.
Villagers are busy discussing their candidates for the upcoming polls. The AL and BNP are in a strong position in the constituency. BNP men said as at present the AL is in a strong position in the constituency, BNP hopes to fight against the rival. Some people of BNP said to the New Nation that BNP central leader Engr. M Iqbal Hossain, who got the BNP ticket in the past one election, is a probable candidate and it is thought to be certain.
Chairman of Gouripur Upazila Parishad Ahmed Tayebur Rahman Hiron hopes to take advantage of the AL’s factional feuds while contesting the polls.
Besides. BNP is sharply divided into factions in the constituency. One faction is led by Heron and the other by M Iqbal Hossain. Hiron said, he is facing various obstacles — cases, police action and attacks by pro-government activists. The opposition men who stand accused in cases are not willing to take the risk of campaigning in public.
Joint Secretary of Bangladesh-Jatiyotabadi Sangskritik Jot Md. Ashraful Islam (Kobi Selim Bala) told The New Nation that candidates who do not have strong political background are busy in lobbying. Now many candidates are busy in mass contact programmes and attending various political, social and religious functions.. At the same time, they are going door-to-door, asking for the public’s votes. The acting convener of the upazila BNP Hafez Md. Azizul Haque is hoping to get a nomination once.
Vice-President of district Jubo Dal (North) Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman Mahfuz told this correspondent “I was involved with Chhatra Dal politics in my student life and hoping to get a nomination ,” Upazila BNP Joint Convener Nasimul Goni Sohel said, said that new nomination candidates hope that this election will be same as the election of January 5, 2014, but there are leaders who are going around building a strong political background and at the end they will be the ones eligible for the nomination.
