11 ‘BCL men’ during land grabbing bid in Sylhet

Locals captured 11 alleged activists of local unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) while they were making attempt to take possession illegally of a piece of land belonging to district Awami League leader Jubayer Khan in Sylhet city on Friday. The incident took place in the city’s Jugirtila area under Airport Police Station.
Witnesses said on Friday night around 10:00pm, about 50 Chhatra League activists riding motorbikes came to Jugirtila near Electric Supply Road under Airport Thana in the city and made an attempt to take possession of the land owned by district AL leader Jubayer Khan illegally. Then locals managed to catch 11 of the BCL activists along with six motorcycles from the spot as they primarily took the attackers for robbers. Later the detained BCL men were handed over to police.
Airport Thana Officer-in-Charge Aktar Hussen said mob caught 11 youths during their attempt to take illegal possession of a piece of land but details of their political identities could not be known. AL leader Jubayer Khan alleged a person named Awal had sent 50 BCL activists to take possession of his land illegally but locals chased them off and detained 11 of them.
