11.5 lakh children to be administered vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules in Ctg today

At least 11.5 lakh children under five years of age will be administered vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules in the port city and district on the occasion of National Vitamin ‘A’ plus campaign -2014 on April 5.
The campaign will begin from 8am and continue uninterruptedly till 4pm.
Over 700 supervisors including Commissioners of 41 wards in Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) and 2009 supervisors in the 14 upazilas of the district will supervise the ‘A’ Plus campaign in the port city and district.
A total of 4815 temporary centres will be set up by Chittagong Civil Surgeon office and all 14 upazilas in Chittagong while Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) will set up 1248 temporary centres in all 41 wards to carry out the programme.
Over 25000 volunteers and health workers including 4848 by CCC would be engaged for vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules while additional de worming tablet administered to each of the children aged from 2 to 5 years.
Besides, 1200 volunteers and health workers in CCC area and 4850 in the 14 upazilas of the district will carry out the drive in next four days from April 6 as a follow up programme through visiting doorsteps of the households to cover up dropped out children, CCC and civil surgeon office sources said.
CCC sources said several mobile teams consisting of 278 members in port city and 580 members in the district have been engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and steamer stations as well as other places makeshift living.
This was disclosed separate press conferences held at CCC auditorium and Civil Surgeon office by city Mayor M Monzur Alam and Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Sarfaraj Khan Chowdhury respectively this noon.
CCC mayor M Monzur Alam will formally inaugurated the programmes on April 5.
