Bangladesh generated 10,699MW of electricity around 9:00pm on Sunday, according to Power Development Board.
“Power generation has been increasing for the last few days,” said PDB spokesman Md Saiful Islam.
Earlier on May 22, PDB’s power generation was 10187 MW.
Although electricity generation reached its peak, parts of the capital experienced load shedding in the afternoon as demand surged.
“This could be load shedding, or technical glitch that caused power failure during that time,” said Saiful Islam.
The number of power plants increased to 108 from 27 when the ruling Awami League government came into power in 2009.
More power plants hiked the power generation capacity to 15,351MW from 4,942MW.
At least 80 per cent of the population is now under electricity coverage, rising from 47 per cent in 2009.
