100pc fair polls not possible, says EC Kabita

Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam on Friday said that there is no example of holding 100 percent fair election anywhere in the world and it is also not possible in Bangladesh.
“Hundred-percent fair election held nowhere in the world. It will not be possible in our country. We want to say that we will put in all out efforts for holding an election acceptable to all. It will remain above question,” she said this while addressing a briefing session
 with the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) from Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna Divisions at EC Bhaban.
Earlier, the EC held similar briefing session for the Returning Officers and AROs from Dhaka, Chattogram, Barishal and Sylhet Divisions.
The EC is moving towards holding of the 11th Parliamentary polls on December 30. The commission has been carrying out a series of briefing sessions for key polls officials to materialise this objective.
Kabita Khanam said, “Wind of election fervour spreads across the country. You should not let this wind to be contrary. This is the EC’s directive to you. You must comply with this directive”
“Holding a national election fairly is a very difficult job. You should do it by etiquette to all,” she said.
Seeking cooperation of the countrymen, Kabita Khanam said, “Holding a fair election is not the sole responsibility of the EC. It is also a responsibility of all of us. I expect cooperation of all.”
EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed urged the AROs to put in their maximum efforts for holding a fair election.
“It is a chance for once in a lifetime. Election will be held on December 30. It is fixed. All of the political parties will participate in the polls. So, this election will be contesting,” he said.
