The Rural Electrification Board (REB) is set to provide electricity connections to 10,000 residents of former enclaves in four districts by December this year.
“We have already got the consent from the Prime Minister to give electricity connections in the 52 former enclaves in Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Thakurgaon districts,” REB Chairman Moin Uddin told The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate the electricity connections to 1,000 residents of six former
enclaves initially by November this year.
REB Chairman said that the REB Samity would set up 30 thousands more power distribution lines by 2015-16 aiming at connecting 30 lakh consumers.
In last five years, the REB installed 34,3487km distribution lines. Already 2,223 villages have been given electricity for 24 lakh new connections.
The REB has a plan to bring 90 per cent of the off-grid area under rural electrification facility by 2021 and more than 0.8 million applicants would be given connections soon, Chairman of the entity said.
