State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Thursday said around 1,000 MW electricity would be added to the national grid during the month of holy Ramadan.
“We are committed to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity during the holy month of Ramadan as some 1,000 MW power would be added to the national grid this month,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange with the City’s Shop Owners Association at Bidyut Bhaban here.
The state minister some 10,986 MW power was generated yesterday in the country, while the generation capacity reached to 16,046 MW. The government is putting in its relentless efforts to ensure adequate power supply across the country, he added.
He also directed the Petrobangla authority to increase supply of natural gas to 1,000 mmcfd from 950 mmcfd aimed at generating electricity smoothly.
“We will put in our best efforts to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the holy month of Ramadan across the country,” he said adding that electricity users should be more careful about power consumption during the Ramadan and Tarahbi prayers.
As per the meeting with shop owners association, welding machines and rerolling mills are to pull down their shutters after evening, while the compressed natural gas (CNG) refilling stations would remain closed from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm alongside petrol pumps and shopping malls should avoid illumination in the greater interest during the Ramadan.
