At least 100 shanties were gutted in a fire that took place at Balurmath slum in the city’s Hazaribagh area on Wednesday afternoon.
However, the origin of the fire could not be known immediately. No casualty was reported till filling of this report on Wednesday night.
Fire Service sources said the fire broke out at a shanty in the slum around 1:45pm and soon engulfed the adjoining shanties.
On information, seven firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at about 4pm, said Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) Headquarters Inspector Mahmud Haque.
