Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday said the government has taken a project worth US $ 100 million for teachers’ training and developing their skill.
“The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of college education under national university for helping the Bangladeshi students cope with this age of globalization,” he said at a rally at central Shaheed Minar in the city.
The colourful rally was held marking the first convocation ceremony of national university. The rally began from in front of National Museum and ended at Shaheed Minar after parading different important thoroughfares.
Nahid said the national university is conducting examinations in 2,500 colleges across the country through its six regional offices that resulted in reduction to session jam.
“The government will do its best to modernize the national university. We have a plan to further develop its infrastructures like laboratories and libraries under the university,” he said.
The minister said the country’s new generation would be equipped with modern education to help them cope with competitive world.
University Grants Commission Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan, National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Haroon-or-Rashid, Secretary to the Secondary and Higher Secondary Department M Sohrab Hossain were present.
Earlier, students and teachers of different colleges under the national university took part in the colourful procession.
