The authority of the Bangladesh Railway (BR) and the city watchdog Chittagong Development Authority in separate drives on Sunday evicted over about 100 different types of structures which were illegally erected beside railway tracks and Pahartali CDA Market area respectively.
Divisional Estate Officer, BR, Eastern Zone, Ishrat Reza led the five-hour eviction drive at city’s Dewanhat and Sholoshahar Number-2 Gate areas.
BR sources said the BR authority earlier issued notices to the illegal occupants and conducted campaign through loud speakers on Sunday to evacuate the land. Finally evicted over 40 illegal structures beside the railway tracks in Dewanhat and Solasahar area in city.
“The structures were evicted jointly by police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Railway Security Force today as the occupants had been staying there in risky conditions”, the sources added.
Meanwhile CDA in special drive at Pahartali CDA Machinery market area under Pahartali thana evicted over 50 illegal structures of shops and semi pucca houses from the area. The special drive of CDA led by Executive Magistrate Mr. Khin Own Nun.
The mobile court instantly realized penalty of Tk.20 thousand from the illegal occupants, sources said.
