100 hurt in Sunamganj clash

More than 100 people, including women, were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land related dispute at Rowli village in Chhatak upazila on Wednesday night.
Four of the injured-Dilal, 24, Ruvel, 23, Joynal, 28, and Majumal Begum, 60– were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
The rest were undergoing treatment at different other hospitals, including Chhatak Upazila Health Complex.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between former union parishad chairman M Abdul Khalik Miah and ex-UP member Akkel Ali over the ownership of a piece of land.
As a sequel to that, men of the duo equipped with sharp weapons attacked one another at Rowli village around 9:00pm, triggering a fierce clash.
During the melee, more than 100 people from both sides were injured.

Minor girl drowns in Benapole

A minor girl drowned in a pond at Hariadeara village in Jhikargachha upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Suraiya Khatun, 4, daughter of Zakir Hossain of the village.
Family sources said Suraiya drowned in the pond near his home while taking bath with her mother around 2:30pm on Wednesday.
