Department of Environment (DoE) in a drive on Monday seized about 10 tonnes of banned polythene bags from four factories in the capital’s Kamrangirchar and Lalbagh areas.
The owners of the factories fled the scene sensing the drive, but two employees were arrested in this connection, said a press release.
The four factories were also sealed off by the officials during the drive, which was led by DoE director (monitoring and enforcement) Mohammad Alamgir.
Alamgir said, the DoE will continue to conduct regular drives against the banned polythene to prevent pollution of the environment, particularly the rivers and canals of the capital.
