10 school teachers get bail in defamation case

A court here on Tuesday granted bail to 10 school teachers out of 13 accused in a sedition case filed with Banshkhali Police Station in this year.
Chittagong District and Session Judge Helal Chowdhury passed the bail order, said Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul.
The court also rejected the bail petitions of three other teachers in the case.
According to the court sources, the accused compared the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with the chairman of a local union parishad Liakat Ali, also a BNP leader, in the question paper of a class IX interim exam of those schools.
The conscious people of the area noticed the matter first and protested it on social networking sites and local media before they informed the matter to upazila administration, sparking off a huge public criticism.
Following this, sub-inspector M Nurul Anwar of Banshkhali Police Station filed a case against 13 teachers of different schools on June 14.
However, all of the accused granted an eight-week anticipatory from the High Court in the case.
On August 23, the 13 teachers of secondary schools in different upazilas of the district surrendered to a local court upon completion of the interim bail and filed bail petitions again.
However, the court sent them to jail rejecting their bail petitions.
