Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday rescued 10 Rohingya refugees and detained an alleged human trafficker from a trawler headed for Malaysia in the Bay of Bengal.
The Rohingyas are The Rohingyas are: Ziaur Rahman, 30, Jaber Alam, 35, Rashid Ullah, 30, Nurul Alam, 28, Rojina, 25, Jannat Ara, 27, Julekha Begum, 20, Mosaddeka, 25, Setera Begum, 22, and Sadika, 20.
All the Rohingyas were refugees from Ukhia and other camps of Cox’s Bazar,

Tipped-off, a team of RAB-7 conducted a drive in the Bay near Shahparir Dwip in Teknaf upazila and rescued the Rohingyas from a trawler around 8:30am, said Major Mehedi Hasan, Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-7 in the district.
The detained human trafficker, Abdur Rahman, is a resident of Sabrang union in the upazila, our correspondent said.Ten Rohingyas, including six women, were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) when they were being illegally trafficked to Malaysia by sea from Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district.
They were found in the house of a man named Abdur Rahman at Majerpara, Shahporir Dwip in Teknaf in the early hours of Friday. Rahman was shown arrest for his suspected involvement in the trafficking.
RAB-7 CPC 2 Teknaf camp Company Commander Lieutenant Mirza Shahed Mahtab said, “Based on a tip-off, we conducted a drive after finding out some Rohingyas illegally trying to leave for Malaysia from Teknaf’s Shahporir Dwip through by sea.”
“At that time, we detained the owner of the house as a suspect for his involvement regarding the trafficking,” he said. A case has been filed with Teknaf Police Station regarding the issue, he added.
