The activists of banned militant organizations have been trying to collect new members across the country for months.
The leaders are imparting high technology based training to their workers to commit terrorism in the name of movement for Khelafat, Krishna Pad Roy, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told the reporters on Monday.
The militants are planning to commit robberies in different banks to collect fund for the organizations, the police official said.
They move frequently from one place to another to avoid arrest, he said.
Meanwhile, detectives arrested a member of Islamic State (IS) militia in the city’s Banani area on Monday afternoon. The arrested man has been identified as Fida Muntasir Shaker, an organizer of IS in Dhaka Chapter, Krisna Pad said.
“Fida recently collected at least 12 new members for IS from Ansarullah Bangla Team and trained them. He also took training from various banned organizations, including Hijbut-Tahrir and Junud al Tawhid Khilafat,” the police official said.
He confessed to police that a large number of their activists are trying to collect new members across the country, especially in Dhaka, the Joint commissioner said.
The same day, detectives in separate drives arrested nine members of militants of banned Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (Huji) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) at Banasree and Sutrapur in the capital.
On May 31, Police detained two members of the Islamic State militia in the capital. The detainees are Aminul Islam Beig, regional coordinator of JMB and also IT head of a multinational company, and Sakib Bin Kamal, teacher of an English medium school in Dhaka.
On May 24, police arrested two suspected members of the outfit from Dhaka’s Uttara and Lalmatia. They were enrolling members through online to topple democratic governments and establish Khilafat rule as ordered by the ISIS, police said.
Police arrested two members of IS in connection with a bank robbery at Kathgora branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank, Ashulia on April 24. The arrested men are Babul Sarker and Mintu Prodhan.
In January, three trained militants of Pakistan-based Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were held with bomb-making and training manuals from the capital.
Monirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch of Police, said that all militant organizations always try to collect new members and fund for the organizations.
The arrested men confessed in police custody that they have separate teams who were engaged in collecting members, he said.
“We have formed separate cells to monitor the activities of the militant organizations,” the detective official said.
