At least 10 persons were killed and 30 others seriously injured in several road crashes across the country on Sunday.
In Jhenaidah, at least three persons were killed in separate road crashes in the district on Sunday.
At Kaliganj, a driver and his helper were killed when a cement laden truck plunged into a canal in Kaliganj upazila of the district early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Jony Hossain, 32, the driver of the truck and Towhidul Islam, 26, the helper.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yunus Ali confirmed the matter to media that the truck was en-route to Bheramara upazila of Kushtia from Khulna in the morning. But, suddenly the truck had overturned and plunged into a canal after its front wheel got burst, at a bridge in Salabhora area, leaving Jony and Towhidul dead on the spot.
The bodies were recovered and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies, added the OC.
Meanwhile, an elderly person named Yunus Ali,60, was killed when a passenger bus hit him at Lawdiya area under Sadar upazila of the district.
In Dhaka, a young motorcyclist was killed as his bike hit a roadside pillar after losing control in Wari area of the capital early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Jubayer, 25, son of one Mojibur Rahman from Hare Street area of Wari.
Wari Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Babu Ram confirmed the news to the media that the youth sustained critical injuries in the accident at Wari Post Office area, around 1am. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries around 2am.
In Madaripur, a youth named Shajal Ballav,23, was killed when a Tomtom overturned at Senkhali area under Rajoir upazila of the district on Sunday.
Mohammad Shajahan, Officer-in-Charge of Rajoir Police Station told the matter to media.
In Cumilla, a tractor driver named Helal Hossain,27, was killed when the vehicle overturned at Corpai area on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway of the district on Sunday.
In Naogaon, a driver of a tractor, named Babu,28, was killed when his vehicle overturned in Manda upazila of the district.
In Panchagarh, a pick up van driver named Abul Kashem,28, was killed in a tragic road crash in Boda upazila of the district on Sunday.
In Kisoreganj, an elderly person named Abdul Mottalib,70, was killed when a bus rammed him in Kotiyadi upazila of the district on Sunday noon.
