None arrested so far: 10 more killed in 24 hrs across country

At least 10 more persons, including three women, were killed by unidentified assailants in different parts of the country in the last 24 hours ending Monday noon.
The incidents took place in Chittagong, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Pangsha, Damuhura, Khulna and Jhenaidah. But the police could not arrest any of the murderers till the time of filing of this report last night.
Of the victims, a mother and her daughter were hacked to death in the posh CDA Residential Area, Agrabad in Chittagong in anytime between Sunday night and Monday morning. The miscreants also severed the tendons of their hands and legs with sharp weapons.
Some others were killed receiving bullets in the heads or chest while gunmen shot them from point-blank range. Besides, two others died being strangulated by the killers.
Police said the most sensational mother and daughter-killing incident came to light in the morning. The victims have been identified as Rozina Begum Rizia, 40, and her daughter Saima Naznin Nishat, 17, who was also a SSC candidate of CDA Girl High School this year.
A friend of Saima had come to pick her up around 10:40am to take joint preparations for a practical exam.
 She became scared as no one opened the door despite repeated knocks. Later, the security guards of the building broke open the door and found the bodies.
 “The miscreants chopped the duo indiscriminately and their tendons of hands and legs were severed. The doctors declared both of them dead when they were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital [CMCH]. The bodies were sent to the morgue for autopsy,” said Motiul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring police station.
The OC said, “We didn’t find any sign of robbery. The reason behind the double-murder might be previous enmity. The probable time of killing may be anytime between Sunday midnight to Monday sunrise. We are conducting investigation into the incident. ” Saif Reza, elder brother of Saima, said the incident might have taken place after he and his father Rezaul Karim, who is also a C&F Agent, left the house in the morning. “A student of USTC Raihan had been harassing my sister [Saima] for a long time. We suspect him for the killings being rejected for love affair,” Reza said.
Police picked up two security guards of the building for interrogation in connection with the double-murder.
In Pangsha under the district of Rajbari, the police recovered bullet-hit bodies of two men, including an Awami League [AL] leader, from Bagh Binchupur area of the upazila in early morning. The victims were identified as Feroz Ahmaed alias Kamal, 55, son of late Nurul Mandal, and K.M. Mohabbat Hossain Dulal, 52, son of Maksed Khandakar, hailed from Khoksha upazila of Kushtia district. Both of them were contractors while Dulal was also joint secretary of Khoksha upazila unit of AL.
OC of Pangsha Police Station Abdul Bashar said, “A group of miscreants kidnapped Feroz and Dulal from Someshpur Bazar of Khoksha while they were retuning home on Sunday night. Locals found the bodies lying at a brick kiln of one Ashraful at Folibari area of Macchmara union on the Rajbari-Kushtia Highway around 5:45am.
“Their mouths were fastened with red scotch tapes and hands and legs were tied with ropes. There were marks of bullet injuries in their heads. The bodies have been sent to district hospital morgue for autopsy,” the OC added.
Another unidentified body of a man was recovered yesterday from beside a pond at Baroban village of Sorisa union under Pangsha upzila. Police said the hands and legs of the body were tied by ropes and its neck was also tied by another piece of rope. Police suspected that the assailants killed him by suffocating.
In Damuhura, the unknown assailants shot dead a man. Police recovered the bullet-riddled body of the victim from Boalmari village of Damuhura upzila in the district of Chuadanga at about 10:00am. The victim was wearing a lungi and a pair of sandal. OC of Damuhura Police Station said, ” We cannot identify the victim immediately as his entire face had been blown-off due to high caliber bullet explosion. The assailants shot him at point blank range. Police recovered the body of a pregnant woman named Nasima Begum, 32, in Khulna, at Hazigram of Dighalia upzila in the morning. The killers slaughtered her neck by sharp weapons attacking the woman in her residence, police said without giving any further details.
 Rail Police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from beside the Dhaka-Chittagong railway track at Kodda signal area of Akhaura in the district of Brahmanbaria at about 10:30am yesterday. OC of Akhaura Railway Police Station Saidul Islam said, ” We suspect the killers threw off the body after killing him in the running train. We are trying to identify the victim.”
Unidentified assailants also killed Chanu Mondal, 45, at Badanpur village of Jhenida Sadar upzila.
Sub Inspector of Jhenaida Sadar Police Station, Dokul Chandra Adhikari said, “The victim, a local farmer, was strangulated to death when the killers tied his neck with a piece of rope. Later, he was hanged from a nearby tree by the killers.”
But the police could not ascertain the reason behind the motive of the killing.
The police recovered the body of a youth, identified as Md Ramzan Hossain, 25, from Titas area in Comilla district in the morning. “The body bore marks of several cut injuries in different parts. But the reason behind the killing is still under investigation. We are conducting drive to arrest the killers,” said OC of Titas Police station Nabir Hossain.
