Detective police have arrested 10 people on charges of making counterfeit versions of medicines typically used to treat patients attacked with different diseases.
About 20 lakh counterfeit medicines of different brands were also seized from them at that time.
According to intelligence sources, the detainees were marketing the drugs using expensive domestic and foreign brand names.
The arrested have been identified as Md. Kabir Hossain, Ainul Islam, Morshed Alam Shaon, Al Amin Chanchal, Sagar, Abir, Rubel, Nazim Uddin, Touhid and Parvez.
Additional Commissioner of Police AKM Hafiz Akhter confirmed it to the media in a press conference at the DMP’s media center on Monday (June 6th).
The accused were arrested on Sunday (June 5th) during two separate raids at Himalaya Laboratories in Kaptan Bazar area of Cumilla district and Savar.
They were arrested on charges of manufacturing and marketing counterfeit drugs.
The cycle was manufacturing all the expensive medicines for various complex diseases. Later it sent to different parts of the country including the capital through the members of the gang, AKM Hafiz said .
He further said, the head of the cycle of making fake drugs Kabir Hossain and Morshed Alam Shaon were making counterfeit medicines and marketing them in remote areas of the country through courier services with other arrested accomplices.
A case has been filed against them at Kotwali police station.
