The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in separate drives arrested 10 members of ‘Agyan party’ gangsters from the city’s Jatrabari, Sayedabad and Dhanmondi areas on Sunday night and Monday.
The law enforcers seized a private car, four CNG-auto rickshaws, some domestic arms and a large number of doping pills during the drives. They also recovered Tk 56,000 from their possession.
The arrested people have been identified as Mohammad Sumon, 29, Mohammad Hasan, 22, Mohammad Sekandar Ali, 28, Mohammad Shohag, 20, Abdul Mannan, 78, Mohammad Saidul Islam, 35 and Abdul Jalil, 48.
The identity of three others could not be known immediately, police said.
DMP Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said that the members of Agyan party have become active ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Police Saidur Rahman said that ‘Agyan party also known as Malam party’ goons snatch money and goods from people making them unconscious.
