10 killed in Rajbari road crash

At least 10 people, including two women and an infant, have been killed in a road accident in Rajbari, police say. The mishap on the Daulatdia-Faridpur Highway around 3.30am Friday left at least 25 others injured, Rajbari highway police outpost Sergeant Lazim Uddin said. A Barisal-bound bus of ‘Global Paribahan’ from Dhaka and a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’ from Khulna rammed into each other leaving eight people dead on the spot. The Eagle Paribahan bus fell into a roadside ditch due to the impact of the collision while the other bus was heavily damaged. Eight bodies were recovered from the scene, Sergeant Lazim said adding two of the 25 injured died at hospital. The bodies have been kept at the Goalanda intersection highway police outpost. Seven victims have been identified so far as — ‘Sakim’, 16, Ratan Sarker, 52, and Paresh Roy, 50, of Barisal’s Agoiljhora Upazila, ‘Nasima’, 28 and her three-month-old daughter ‘Jannat’ from Mehendiganj Upazila, ‘Global Paribahan’ supervisor Babu Fakir, 45, and ‘Afsar’, 48. Three others, including a woman, are yet to be identified.
