10 killed, 35 hurt in N’ganj road crash

At least 10 people were killed and 35 others injured when a passenger bus crashed into a lorry at Tribardi Mugrapara in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Monday afternoon.
Among the deceased, eight were identified as Shuvo Saha, 19, Mohammad Yeasin, 38, Farhad Hossas 28, Ashiqur Rahman, 25, Raju Mia, 22, Kalam Mia, 23, Ambia 34, Yasmin, 23, and Mizan, 8, said Motiar Rahman, Additional Superintendent (crime) of Police of Narayanganj district.
The name of the two deceased could not be identified immediately. Of them one is woman and another was a baby, the police official said.
Fifteen of the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 2:00pm. Of them, 10 injured men were hospitalized with critical injuries, said Dr Md Mahmud, the Emergency Room Doctor at DMCH.
A Chittagong-bound bus of Md Yasin, said to have crashed into the lorry which was parked at the roadside Tribardi on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the Upazila’s area around 1:30pm, said Narayanganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Moinul Haque.
Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshed Alam said that the accident took place in the area while it has been lost control over steering.
At least five bodies were handed over to their families as per their demand, the OC said.
The bus started its journey with more than 50 passengers from Dhaka around 1.00pm. our local correspondent reports quoting district Traffic Police Inspector (admin) Molla Taslim Hossain.
Kajal Rani Saha, mother of deceased Shuvo Saha, wailing and searching for her son at the gates of DMCH in the afternoon.
She said they boarded the bus from Kanchpur Bridge. The bus encountered the crash somewhere in Sonargaon.
The DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia said four injured died on way to hospital while a woman at the hospital.
