At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents in Laxmipur, Cox’s Bazar, Bogura and Pabna districts on Thursday.
In Laximpur, at least four people were killed and 10 others seriously injured when a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in front of Polly Bidyut office on the Dhaka-Laxmipur Highway under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Rafiqullah, 55, son of Patwari, Mafizullah, 55, son of Najir Ahmed of Sadar upazilla, Khorshed Alam, 35, son of Nurul Amin and Abdul Nur, 60. They all were construction workers.
Local sources said that, the tragic accident occurred around 9:00am when a pick-up van carrying the victims plunged into a roadside ditch after its tyre exploded.
Laxmipur police outpost SI Kawsar confirmed media that three were killed on the spot and ten others were injured.
The injured were taken to Laxmipur Sadar Health complex where Abdul Nur succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, he added.
In Cox’s Bazar, at least three people were killed when a passenger bus collided with a private car on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Joarianala in Ramu upazila of the district on Wednesday night, Ramu Police Station OC (Officer-in-Charge) Abul Khayer said.
The deceased were identified as Jan-e Alam, 35, of Aturar Dipo; Masud Kibria, 40, of Halishohor; and Jamal Uddin, 35, of West Nasirabad.
In Bogura, a truck driver and his helper were killed and 14 others injured when a truck rammed a passenger bus in Sherpur upazila of Bogura on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Sanwar Hossain, 35, son of one Rabiul Islam, and his assistant Mintu Mia, 38, son of one Hafizur Rahman. Both were the inhabitants of Madla Malitala village in Shahjahanpur upazila.
Sherpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Ratan Hossain confirmed the death.
In Pabna, a college teacher named Ferdous Salim Bablu, 48, was killed when a private car hit him in Ramchandrapur area of the district on Wednesday night.
