10 injured in AL factional clash

A total of 10 leaders and workers of Awami League were injured on Saturday in clashes centering establishment of supremacy during the extended meeting of the party here. The clash took place at the district council auditorium ground of the local Mission Road in the afternoon. Of the injured, five leaders and workers were admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Onon, 23, son of Golam Mostofa Swapon, district Awami League Organising Secretary, and Tareq of Gokunda Juba League were among the injured. Police and AL sources informed that the party arranged its extended meeting at Lalmonirhat district council auditorium ahead of its national council. However, slogans were

chanted and the atmosphere got heated after central Awami League Joint Secretary General Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Organising Secretary BM Mozammel Haque entered the meeting.
In the presence of the central leaders, at the auditorium ground descended to the “chase and counter-chase” between the groups of district Awami League Secretary advocate Motiar Rahman and Organising Secretary Golam Mostafa Swapon centering establishment of supremacy and chanting slogan. By the time the clashes between the AL groups eventually subsided, 10 people were injured. The injured were admitted to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Later, the leaders of the two groups Motiar and Swapon came out of the hall room and instructed everyone to leave.
