UNB, Sylhet :Ten people were injured in a clash between two groups of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in the city on Friday over the new district committee of the BNP’s student wing.The new district JCD committee was announced on Thursday with Sayeed Ahmed as its president and Rahat Chowdhury general secretary.Agitated JCD leaders who were not included in the new committee confined Sayeed Ahmed to the house of former convener of city unit BNP Dr Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury at Housing Estate for about two years after Juma prayers yesterday.The JCD president was rescued from the captivity by his followers who took him to the Supply area.However, the deprived JCD leaders, including former general secretary Safek Mahbub and former organising secretary Mahbubul Haque Chowdhury of the unit, along with their followers encircled Sayeed when he was holding a meeting with his supporters at the local power office.At one stage, the both groups locked into a clash that left 10 people injured from the both sides.Following the incident, a tense situation was prevailing in the area.Sayeed said, those who failed to get any post in the new committee are defying the central committee order.Former Social Welfare Affairs secretary of city unit JCD Rezaul Karim Nachon said those who were given posts in the committee have no contribution to the party, terming it a pocket committee.
