At least 10 people were injured in indiscriminate firing in the house of a Member of Parliament (MP) in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district on Wednesday afternoon.
A gang of unidentified miscreants carried out the attack around 2:00pm when MP Ayesha Ferdous (Noakhali Constituency-5) was addressing a protest rally, said AKM Zahirul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police in Noakhali.
Witnesses said that at least 10 supporters of Ayesha Ferdous were injured in the attack.
The injured could not be identified immediately, the police official said.
The miscreants opened indiscriminate firing from the north of her house when she was addressing the rally. The attackers fled the scene when her party workers chased them, locals said.
Supporters of the MP vandalised the house of Mahmud Ali on suspicion that the attackers had taken shelter there. A number of people were injured in the attack, they said.
Ayesha Ferdous alleged that Awami League upazila President Wali Ullah and General Secretary Mahiuddin were behind the attack.
She also blamed Mahmud Ali who recently became active in Awami League politics.
Ayesha Ferdous alleged the attackers came from Mahmud Ali’s house. “I narrowly escaped.”
Mahmud Ali, however, denied the allegations.
On August 30, Jubo League worker Reaz Uddin was attacked with knives by a gang of miscreants at Seku market of Sonadia in Hatiya upazila. He died on the way to hospital.
His father Korban Ali filed a murder case implicating 154 persons including former MP Mohammad Ali, husband of Ayesha Ferdous. Twelve cases were pending against Reaz.
