UNB, Narayanganj :
At least 10 people were injured in a clash between members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and a group of locals in Golachipa area of the city on Sunday night.
Quoting RAB sources, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Manjur Qader said a plainclothes team of RAB-11 launched a drive in Rupar Bari area of Golachipa around 11:00pm to arrest a criminal.
As the elite force members made a swoop on the area, a number of local people encircled them taking them for robbers mistakenly and beat them indiscriminately, leaving three RAB members-Anwar, Imran and Alamgir-injured.
They also vandalised a motorcycle of RAB and dumped it into a pond. RAB personnel then fired bullets to bring the situation under control, leaving five people injured with bullets, locals said.
On information, additional members of RAB rushed to the spot and rescued the RAB members from the clutches of the clashing mob by firing gunshots. Of the injured, Delwar was first sent to Narayanganj 200-Bed Hospital from where he was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. No comments of RAB were found in this regard.
