News in brief: 10 gold bars recovered in Benapole

BENAPOLE: Members of Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 10 gold bars, weighing 1.5 kg, from a mango orchard at Putkhali village here on Friday. Tipped off, a team of BGB-21 conducted a drive in the area and recovered the gold bars worth Tk 50 lakh in an abandoned condition, said Lieutenant colonel Tariqul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-21. However, none was arrested in this connection as the smugglers managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the border guards. The seized gold bars were deposited to Benapole Custom House. A case was filed, reports UNB.
