10 families become self-reliant by fish farming in floating cage

At least ten families have became self-reliant by cultivating fish in floating cage in the Gumani River at Pabna district. The family members made each cage about 20 feet in length, 10 feet wide and 6 feet deep with bamboo into the net.
Many empty drums tied to the surface of the cage to keep it floating. One and a half thousand fish of Monosex are cultivated in each cage. Here eighty to ninety taka is cost to produce one kilogram fish.. The demand of the fish is so high because it is produced from the River. At present the fish is selling at 120 to 150 tk. Per kg.
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, Hafizur Rahman ,the vilagers of Ratanpur under Pungali Union in Faridpur upazila at first began fish farming in a cage at Demra area in the river Gumani. He got an award of Bangabandhu National Agriculture for his success in the year of 2015. Many fishermen now have chosen this method because fish farming is more profitable and its cultivation is low-cost.
 Nizamuddin and Abdur Razzaq, the local fishermen have some floating cage in the Gumani river . They claimed that they have became successful in fish farming.
However, the fishermen expect training and soft loans to increase floating fish farm in the river. They are getting benefits by fish farming in cage and eliminating their poverty.
