10 DU students get NEF scholarship

Ten meritorious students of Biological Sciences faculty and Earth and Environmental Sciences faculty of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF), Japan scholarship” on Wednesday for their outstanding academic results.DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the students of different departments under the two faculties as the chief guest at a function at the VC’s lounge of the university, said a press release.
The recipients of the scholarship are – Jafirul Islam, Subrota Datta, Shajnia Shashi, Md. Imran Khan, Samina Akter, Bappy Rakhain, Munni Khanam, Md. Moajjam Hossain, Mahfuza Khandaker and A. Hamid Khan Vasani. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to contribute to socio-economic development in the country, the release added.
He stressed the need for creating awareness about environment among the people and enhancement of the quality of education to achieve sustainable development goals.
The VC also called upon the students to participate in co-curricular activities to take themselves as worthy citizens.
Dean of Biological Sciences faculty Professor Dr M Imdadul Hoque, DU Representative of NEF Scholarship Committee Professor Dr Mohammad Zabed Hossain, among others, were present on the occasion.
