The 10 intern doctors of USTC were stuck for 45 minutes in the elevator at GEC corner of the city. A fire service team later rescued them.
The incident took place on Friday at around 9pm while going to the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) building. Authorities said the incident took place due to overcrowding.
Witnesses said the lift in the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) building had a capacity of six people. At around 9 pm on Friday, 10 intern doctors of Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital, USTC, Khulshi, took a lift to the BMA office. At this time the elevator goes down. After many attempts, the elevator door did not open. He later called 999 for help. At one stage a team from Chandanpura Fire Station came and rescued them by opening the elevator door.
Dr. Shubh trapped in the elevator said, “My colleagues Rizvi, Siam, Tashundi, Naqib, Riyadh, Fahim, Zia, Douhid and Omar got stuck in the elevator. Later a fire service team came and rescued us.
Chandanpura Fire Service Station Senior Station Officer. Shahidul Islam said that a team of fire service went to the spot after getting the news of getting stuck in the elevator of BMA building at night. They were later rescued by breaking down the elevator door.
