A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed 10 expelled leaders and activists of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on a 5-day remand each in a case over the murder Abrar Fahad.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order when Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Wahiduzzaman, also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand each.
Those remanded are: BCL BUET unit General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Russel, its Vice-President Muhtasim Fuad, Organising Secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Anik Sarkar, Sports Secretary Meftahul Islam, Literature Secretary Moniruzzaman Monir, Deputy Social Welfare Secretary Efti Mosharraf Sokal, Deputy Office Secretary Mostoba Rafid and two other BCL activists Muntasir Al Jami and Ehtemamul Rabbi.
On Monday, the BCL central committee expelled them for their involvement in the murder of Abrar Fahad. The action was taken following recommendations made by a probe committee formed to look into the murder of Abrar, said a press release signed by the organisation’s acting President Al Nahean Khan Joy and acting General Secretary Lekhok Bhattacharjee.
Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and was also a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET, was mercilessly beaten allegedly by some BCL activists of the university unit.
Later, his body was found on the first-floor stairway of the hall and post mortem reports showed that he was beaten of death.
