Attack on journos: 10 BCL activists expelled from DU

DU Correspondent :The Dhaka University (DU) administration on Tuesday expelled 10 students on charge of assaulting journalists over a trifle matter. All of them are activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League. The university administration took the decision in an emergency meeting on Tuesday. Of them, six students have been expelled for one year. They are Mizanur Rahman, Shariful Islam, Bidyut, Jakir Hossain, Md Hamid and Sohag. And four students have been expelled for six months. They are Mehedi Hasan, Nobel, Parvej and Rahat Hossain. Two other students have been served show cause notice as to why they should not be punished. They have been identified as Mokhles and Khokon. DU Acting Proctor Professor AM Amzad told The New Nation that the DU got evidence that the accused students were directly involved with the attack on journalists. On Monday night BCL postponed the committee of Surja Sen Hall unit and expelled 12 activists from the organisation. Dhaka University Journalists’ Association lodged a case with the Shahbagh Police Station against five BCL activists. The police arrested three BCL activists form the hall and produced them to the court and the court, sent them to jail. It may be mentioned that an altercation took place between the journalists and the activists of Surja Sen Hall unit of Chhatra League over playing football at Mol Chhattar near the hall. At one stage, the BCL activists attacked the journalists that left 10 injured.
