A young man was killed and two people were injured after hitting a tree while traveling on the rooftop of a bus on the Khulna-Paikgachha road in Tala upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Yasin Ali, 26, son of Mozaffor Ali, a resident of Lautara village in Ashashuni upazila.
Mohammad Rezaul Islam Reza, officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, said several bus passengers were traveling on the roof of a Khulna-bound bus as the bus was overcrowded inside.
The accident took place when the passengers on the roof of the speeding bus hit a stem of a tree in Tentulia Morolpara area around 8pm, leaving three of them injured.
