A Boro cultivator was killed on the spot and at least nine persons were injured in a bloody clash between two rival groups of villagers at village Paskata under Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona district on Tuesday.
Police and local people said, the clash ensued centering the issue of harvesting Boro paddy on a disputed land. The dead was identified as Janu Mia,55, of the aforesaid village Paskata.
On receiving information, a police team from Kalmakanda upazila reached the trouble-ridden area and recovered the body and sent it to Netrakona Sader Hospital morgue for post mortem.
Immediately after the incident, the injured persons were admitted to Kalmakanda upazila health complex for treatment. Later, some of them were transferred by the attending doctors to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
When contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalmakanda police station Bashir Ahmed said that by this time, police arrested one Abul Hashem on charge of his involvement in the murder.
Police also started investigation to find out the actual clue of the incident, the OC added.
