1 killed, 7 hurt in Mehendiganj AL factional clash

A man was killed, and seven others were injured in AL factional clash at Mehendiganj of Barisal on Thursday afternoon.
The dead was identified as Faruk Sardar, 44, an AL activist, and son of Tofazzal Sardar from Sultanpur of the upazila.
He died at surgery unit-4 of Barisal Sher- e- Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) at about 5:30 PM on Thursday.
The injured five AL activists identified as Kabir Munshi, Manik, Alauddin, Shipon and Nagor were admitted to SBMCH.
The body was sent to morgue for autopsy, said
 Abul Kalam Azad, Ward Master of the hospital.
Ujjal Kumar Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Mehendiganj Police Station, acknowledged the fact.
Ujjal Kumar Dey said that the local AL factions led by incumbent chairman and AL leader Altaf Hossain Sardar and former chairman Jamal Molla, had old rivalries and accused in cases and counter cases.
Faruk Shikdar, one of the cousins of the deceased, said that Faruk Sardar was nephew and supporter of local AL leader and Ulania UP Chairman Altaf Hossain Sardar.
The incident of killing and injuries happened when rival Jamal Molla group attacked Altaf Hossain and his supporters who were returning home after visiting local AL lawmaker Pankaj Devnath.
The injured were sent to SBMCH immediately by speed boat and Faruk Sardar died there, he added.
