1 killed, 13 wounded in blast in Indian-controlled Kashmir

XINHUA, SRINAGAR :

One person was killed and over a dozen others wounded in a blast on Wednesday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The blast went off in Udhampur town, about 200 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Reports said the wounded were rushed to the hospital, and the cause of the blast was not immediately known.

“I am in touch with deputy commissioner Indu Chib on a minute-to-minute basis. Exact cause and origin of the blast being worked out,” junior minister at Indian Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh wrote on social media. “Too early to draw any definite conclusion.”

Following the blast, top officials of police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

On Sunday two people were killed and over two dozen others wounded in a grenade attack in Srinagar.
