1 held with 9kg gold at HSIA

Custom Intelligence in a drive arrested a person with 9.278kg of gold worth around Tk 4.6cr from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday night.
The arrested man has been identified as Sirajul Islam, 41, customs official said.

Dr Moinul Khan said, “Acting on a tip-off, we challenged Sirajul when he was passing green channel after his arrival by a PG flight of Bangkok Airways at 10pm on Wednesday.”
“At first he denied the charge, but later he confessed that he had the gold bars in his body. We recovered the bars taped in his legs” a Customs official said.
We recovered nine gold bars weighing one kg each and few broken pieces of another gold bar containing 278 grams, Dr Moinul Khan said.
Sirajul, who had travelled abroad 13 times in last six months, wrapped five gold bars in his right leg and four in his left leg, he said.
A case was filed with the police station in this connection. Before it, two women flying by a Regent Airways flight from Oman’s Muskat had been detained for carrying 40 gold bars weighing a combined 4.6kg.
Another 10 bars weighing 2.8kg were found taped with a basket in an airport toilet near Boarding Bridge- 1.
