Customs officials arrested a man along with 24 gold bars, weighing 2.079 kg, at Shah Amanat International Airport here on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrested was identified as Mohammad Ismail, a resident of Rauzan upazila of the district.
Nahid Naushad Mukul, assistant commissioner (customs) at the airport, said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Jeddah landed at the airport around 3:30pm.
Being tipped-off, a team of customs officials searched the plane and recovered the gold bars from beneath the seat of Ismail, and arrested him. The market value of the gold was Tk 1.20 crore, Nahid said.
