A team of Customs Intelligence conducted a drive at the city’ Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday morning and seized 27 gold bars weighing 3.15 kg worth around Tk 1.50 crore.
They have arrested a passenger from an Emirates Airlines flight in this connection. The arrested man has been identified as Tarek Hossain, 24, an inhabitant of Hathazari upazila
in Chittagong district, customs officials said.
Customs Intelligence’s Assistant Director (AD) Umme Nahida Akhter confirmed the matter and said that customs officials conducted a drive at Green Channel area in HSIA following secret information around 9:15am and intercepted Tarek. They searched his luggage and found the gold bars inside a white-colored Whirlpool micro oven.
He came to Dhaka from Dubai by an Emirates Airlines flight, she said.
A case was filed with the Airport Police Station in this connection, the customs official said.
