A woman died and seven other members of the same family suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at five-storey building in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj district .
The 60-year old Nurjahan, who succumbed to her injuries during the undergoing treatment at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early in the morning, said DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Md Bachchu Miah.
The injured are: Kiron Miah, 45, Md Abul Hossain, 25, Md Hiron Miah, 25, Md Kawsar, 16, Mukta Akhter, 20, Ilma Akhter, 3, and Apon, 10. All of them are receiving treatment at DMCH, the police official said.
The fire originated at the ground floor of a five-storey building, where the family lived in Sahebpara area of the upazila around 5:30am, said Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Md Abdullah Al Arefin.
Gas accumulated in their flat as the burner was left on all night. The fire started when the burner was ignited in the morning.
On information, a fire fighting unit rushed the spot and extinguished the fire.
