Staff Reorter: A serous gas explosion claimed life of a woman while seven other members of her family suffered burn injuries in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj on early Monday.
Nur Jahan (60) declared dead by doctors in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:15am.
Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the news to journalists.
He said that Nur Jahan was admitted to the hospital with 100 per cent burns.
The injured — Kiron (45), Hiron (25), Abul Hossain (25), Kauser Miah (16), Mukta Akter (20), Ilma Akter (3), and Apon (10) — have been admitted to the burn unit of the hospital.
DMCH sources said that five of the injured are taking medical treatment in critical condition.
Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence said that they are primarily suspected that the family members may not have switched off the gas stove before going to bed last night.
Gas accumulated inside the kitchen and exploded sharply while they trying to start cooking seting fire in the stove around 5:00am.
