About 150,000 tonnes of summer vegetables are expected to produce in Narsingdi district during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said if the favorable weather condition continues in the next couple of weeks the production target would be achieved breaking all previous records.
Some 8,880 hectares were brought under summer vegetables cultivation in six upazilas of the district in the current season as against 7,600 hectares in the previous year.
DAE Deputy Director Tota Pad Hossain said his department encouraged the farmers to cultivate poison free vegetables and provided training on adverse effects of using pesticides and chemical fertilizers in vegetables fields.
The department also gave training on pest management. He also said the DAE has set a target to cultivate poison free vegetables on 1,200 hectares in the district
The farmers are now producing poison free vegetables by using compost instead of chemical fertilizers and poisonous pesticides.
