Around 1.5 lakh poor and distressed people have been brought under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme in the district to mark the ongoing month of holy Ramadan and forthcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitre.
Under the specialized VGF programme, 1,447 tonnes of rice will be distributed among 1.05 lakh beneficiaries in nine upazilas and 40,049 in 14 pourasavas in the district. Already, the distribution activities were started, the sources closed to the office of District Relief and Rehabilitation said here yesterday. Each of the beneficiaries is getting 10-kg of rice this time according to the list prepared in May last.
Meanwhile, rice distribution in Mohanpur Upazila was completed on Wednesday and progressing fast in other upazilas.
AKM Mujibur Rahman, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, told BSS here that the distribution process is expected to complete before the Eid.
The respective Upazila Nirbahi Officer is monitoring and supervising the rice distribution activities properly. If there is any allegation prompt action will be taken, he added.
This time, he, however, says there was no allegation relating to the rice distribution activities. All concerned with the respective union parishad had prepared list of the distressed people before getting the allocation and afterward the UNOs concerned approved the list.
“We are very much hopeful about successful distribution of the VGF rice on time,” said Razzaqul Islam, UNO of Paba upazila.
